For those who missed the B-52s at last year’s Alive@Five performance in Stamford, the band returns to Connecticut this weekend for a performance at the Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, March 4.
The group is one of a number of musicians who are set to perform throughout the state. You can catch Neil Sedaka, Van Halen and, later next week, Jane’s Addiction.
For the classically minded, the Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony will be putting on two concerts, while the Calefax Quintet will perform on Saturday at the Pequot Library. And, the Stamford Symphony Orchestra welcomes guest conductor Robert Moody for a couple of performances over the weekend. For a little bit of jazz, you can make the trip to Danbury where Sue Matsuki will pay tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.
Perhaps you are looking for some family fare. There are several events that get their flavor from maple sugar, including a two-day festival at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center. In Bridgeport, the monster trucks are set to roll on in to the Webster Bank Arena. The Green Fingers Garden Club of Greenwich will be hosting a two-day flower show, “The Nature of the Game.” Or, you can check out Northeast Children’s Theatre Company’s “The Tortoise and the Hare,” a new musical that will staged at the Kweskin Theatre at Sterling Farms in Stamford Friday and Saturday. The “Celebrate the Art and Science of Animation” exhibition also continues at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford.
On stage, you can catch Fairfield resident Julie Benko in the national tour of “Les Miserables,” which makes a stop at the Bushnell in Hartford. Or, enjoy a comic send-up of sports from The Reduced Shakespeare Co. at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts in Fairfield. “Bell, Book and Candle” will open next week at the Long Wharf Theatre, and a festival of new plays is set for this weekend in Fairfield. “The Irish Curse” opens at TheatreWorks in New Milford. In Stamford, Curtain Call will stage Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman.”
Meanwhile, fans of art will want to make the trip to Greenwich on Friday, March 2, when the Greenwich Art Society holds its opening reception for its 95th annual juried exhibition at the Bendheim Gallery. The show runs through April 1.
Finally, there are a couple of events for those on the hunt for treasures. The 45th annual Darien Antiques Show will take place throughout the weekend at the First Congregational Church of Darien. Over in Greenwich, the American Antique Toy and Coin-op Show will be held on Saturday at the Eastern Civic Center.
Until next time ….
